The Purposes of HAHPERD

	1.	To awaken and stimulate intelligent and comprehensive interest in the areas of health, physical education, recreation, and dance.
	2.	To promote sound community relationships leading to the promotion and support of adequate programs in the areas of health, physical education, recreation, and dance throughout the state.
	3.	To disseminate accurate information, and to assist in research and experimentation in the four areas.
	4.	To raise the professional standards of this Association and to affiliate and cooperate with other associations in improving the profession.
	5.	To support, encourage, and provide guidance for personnel throughout the State of Hawaii as they seek to develop and conduct school and community programs in health, physical education, recreation, and dance.

HAHPERD Re-organization

Our constitution was revised in May of 2003 which included a re-structuring of the Divisions to consolidate the number of board members involved. Where our national organization and other state organizations continue to be structured through the various Divisions (Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Dance, Adapted PE, etc.), we have reorganized to include six Directors, who each serve 2 years on the board and whose duties are to collaborate on all programs in the same manner as had previously been done by Division Chairs. Their specific duties are still to be revised through the Operating Codes. Establishing a clearer description of these duties will also be a work in progress this year.
